Question: CNC and Woodworking

I was wondering if any woodworkers own or use a CNC machine . I'd like to hear your comments on the various brands brands. I'm interested in the one offered by shopbot tools (only because of the price).

-At work we have a Busellato with a 5' X 12' reach. It may be a wee bit out of your range and took a couple few wheel barrows of dead presidents to get it in the door.

-My father in law works with a CNC extensively. He's had a lot of luck carving all sorts of items including detailed faces.

He has found the Rhino 3d modeling group to be of great help. Here is links to their web site and list serve. http://www.rhino3d.com/ http://news2.mcneel.com/scripts/dnewsweb.exe?cmd=xover&group=rhino I am certain that the rhino folks can advise you on cnc models and brands.

If you'd like to see some of my father in laws work here's a link to his carving page. http://www.masterwerkes.net

As he is the middle of moving into a larger carving space I am unsure if the contact info on the site is current but if you'd like to speak with him I'll put you in touch.
