| A beautiful old (1940s or 50s vintage) Craftsman scroll saw just
jumped out at me today and said "buy me." So I did.
It's got as much cast iron in it as my Burke horizontal mill,
and the blade moves straight up and down on sliders (vs the now
more common "parallelogram" rocking arm motion). What I need now is a manual for it, so that I know how to correctly
lubricate the beast. The "crank box" and lower slider are
definitely oiled (vs greased), and it *looks* as if the upper
slider is oiled as well. But I don't know what type of oil to
use. And I could be wrong; the upper slider could be greased. The model number is 103.0404. The rest of the spec plate (which
was painted, whereas the model number was stamped) is illegible.
24" maximum radius, about a 2" throat, 14" square cast iron table,
tiltable to 45 degrees. There have been many posts here about manuals for old Craftsman (Atlas/Clausing) lathes, but I don't recall anything about
scroll saws. Did Atlas or Clausing make these as well?
Who might still carry a manual for one? Short of a manual, I'm open to all advice on properly lubricating
this machine. If I keep it in shape, it looks as if it might
outlast me by a few generations.

When I got all of my father's old Craftsman tools, I wrote to the Sears
Customer Service department with a list of all the model numbers. They
sent me Xerox copies of all the old manuals. My scroll saw is of the same
vintage, but it has a very different model number.
