 | Woodworking in New York City? |
|
I live in a small apartment, actually in Queens. I've been doing some
small woodworking projects, but I'm fairly limited with what I can do
due to the available space for working and tools in my apartment. Are
there wood shops where you can rent time to work in and use their
tools or would I have to take a class?
---------------------
-I don't live there (scared to get out of the car.) Where I live,
local high schools open their shops for dult courses at night. You
get to use really good industrial equipment you can't personally
afford. Some courses are actually free, except for materials. - I live in a small apartment in Brooklyn, and know exactly where you are
coming from. Aren't you envious of all those other places where people have
GARAGES.
However, there are places in New York that rent out or share space. Don't
have names and addresses, so it will require a little more footwork (sorry).
There is a woodworking co-op in Greenpoint that advertises space rental in Fine
Woodworking. I also know of a co-op shop in the Navy Yards area. The easiest of
the two to get ahold of is the Greenpoint shop...perhaps they could give you
more leads.
Alternatively, there are a lot of artists spaces in the DUMBO area of
Brooklyn; of you don't want to pay for the space yourself, perhaps you could
post flyers in the area for people looking to share space.
