| I finally moved into a house where I can have a workshop. I have nothing but
hand tools now (jigsaw, sanders, circular saw, drills, router, etc.). I
think my first project is going to be a futon (I have an "inlaw apartment"
above the garage that I want to use as a "home Theater" room but also a
guest room). I have seen a couple different plans, but I was wondering what
the best source for plans was. My wife has a few ideas on things she wants
made so I will probably trying to make several different things in the
coming months. Any sources for plans would be appreciated and also suggestions for "gotta
have" tools I will need as a newbie at woodworking.
---------------------
Your first stationary power tool should probably be a good, 10" table saw.
Try to find a good used one with a cast iron top and separate motor driving
the arbor with a belt. Sears and Delta both have good saws that can be
picked up in the paper for $200 - $300. Also, avoid the cable drive saws
sold by Sears a number of years ago. My table saw and a drill press are the only large woodworking tools I have
and I've built lots of furniture. I used to have a jointer and a band saw,
and although they were handy, I sold them when I moved 7 years ago and
haven't replaced them. The only other thing I've considered getting is an
oscillating drum sander. -Check out www.plansnow.com for some great plans.
